July 6, 2003
THOMAS SCOTT TANANA [#147892], 49, of San Diego was suspended for one year, stayed, actually suspended for 30 days and until the State Bar Court grants a motion to terminate the suspension, and was ordered to take the MPRE. If the actual suspension exceeds 90 days, he must comply with rule 955; if it exceeds two years, he must prove his rehabilitation. The order took effect July 6, 2003.In a default proceeding, the bar court found that Tanana held himself out as entitled to practice law while he was suspended, and he failed to cooperate with the bar's investigation and notify the bar of his address change.Tanana was enrolled inactive in 2000 and was suspended in 2001 for failing to pay his bar dues. Both his voice mail message and phone book listing identified him as a lawyer. He also changed his address to a mailbox service, where it expired. In mitigation, Tanana has no record of discipline in more than 10 years of practice.
The State Bar Court began posting public discipline documents online in 2005. The format and pagination of documents posted on this site may vary from the originals in the case file as a result of their translation from the original format into Word and PDF. Copies of additional related documents in a case are available upon request. On May 31, 2019, the State Bar Court launched online case dockets. If a case was open or filed on or after Feb 7, 2019, documents are being added online as events occur, and can be accessed with the new Search for a Case feature. Older case records are available on request.
