November 18, 2016

PETER ROBIN ESTES [#168867], 62, of Los Angeles, was disbarred Nov. 18, 2016 and ordered to comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court.

Estes was disbarred after his default was entered for failing to respond to a notice of disciplinary charges. Because he did not seek to have the default set aside or vacated within 90 days, he was disbarred and the charges against him deemed admitted.

Estes engaged in the practice of law in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Georgia and Missouri, where he was not licensed, and failed to cooperate in a disciplinary investigation,

He has one prior record of discipline.

June 6, 2015

PETER ROBIN ESTES [#168867], 61, of Los Angeles, was suspended from the practice of law for 90 days and ordered to take the MPRE, pay restitution and comply with rule 9.20 of the California Rules of Court. He was also placed on two years’ probation and faces a one-year suspension if he does not comply with the terms of his disciplinary probation. The order took effect June 6, 2015.

Estes stipulated to misconduct in six loan modification matters including failing to properly supervise his staff, leading them to offer money back guarantees that he did not authorize, collecting illegal fees, improperly soliciting prospective clients, practicing law in South Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts and New York, where he was not licensed and failing to inform clients of their right to seek the advice of an independent attorney. He was ordered to pay $18,750 plus interest in restitution.

In mitigation, Estes had no prior record of discipline, entered into a prefiling stipulation and took remedial measures to come into compliance with her ethical duties.
