June 14, 2014

BARRY L. VANSICKLE [#98645], 63, of Roseville, Minn., was suspended for one year, stayed, placed on two years’ probation and ordered to take the MPRE and pay restitution. The order took effect June 14, 2014.

VanSickle stipulated to two acts of misconduct in one client matter: failing to perform legal services with competence or promptly refund unearned fees. In July 2010, he was hired to file a lawsuit on behalf of two clients against the Church of Scientology and related entities and was paid $6,500 in advance for his services.

VanSickle never filed the lawsuit and did not earn any portion of the $6,500 paid. He was ordered to pay $6,500 in restitution.

In mitigation, VanSickle had no prior discipline and entered into a prefiling stipulation with the State Bar.
